QOV Awarded

Our own CT Quilters QOV Group member, Sharon, was invited to a Memorial Day party hosted by a Deacon of her church.  Dennis C. served in Vietnam while in the US Army and Sharon was able to present him with a Quilt of Valor at the event.  Sharon pieced and quilted this fabulous quilt.  Dennis is shown here with Sharon (L) and his wife Rita (R):

Thank you so much for your service, Dennis!

Memorial Day – May 26th

Today we recognize and honor all of the valiant men and women who have died in the service to their country.  Initially known as Decoration Day, the event became known as Memorial Day after the First World War.  It is a time for us to remember the great sacrifices that have been made by many to make our country as great as it is today.  Proudly fly your flag at half-mast today in reverence and respect for our soldiers.

Award Presentations!

We were very privileged today to attend the Veteran’s Group meeting at Aston Gardens, a very large retirement center here in Tampa.  Ten members of the CT Quilters Quilts of Valor Group were able to attend and assist with the presentations.

Jean S., Acting Secretary, and Bill W., Leader of the Veterans Group (Veteran-US Coast Guard), greeted the members of their group and signed up a few new members while Patricia and Janet collected names and veterans data from those who would be receiving quilts.

After a Welcome speech by Bill W, Pat N. gave a brief presentation about the Quilts of Valor Foundation and the initial founding of the CT Quilters and the role of the Crafty Threads Quilt Shop as an Under Our Wings location.

She was followed by Debbie W. our current Leader who spoke about this year’s plans and the quilters/volunteers and donations.  Linda Fentriss followed with a description of her duties as the Florida Regional Coordinator for the QOVF and all that entails.  And Diana wrapped up with our special thank you for the Veterans’ service and their sacrifices for the Freedoms we have today.

So now for the awards/presentations of quilts!
